Simone Tippett is Union St Printmakers. She teaches printmaking classes and workshops at Stone & Quoin Studio at 6 Manton St Hindmarsh, as well as in a private classroom in Stepney. 

Techniques:

  • Low-toxic intaglio processes – drypoint, etching, monoprints/monotypes, collagraphs, chine colle, etc.
  • Relief processes – lino printing, woodcuts, wood engravings, collagraphs, embossing, photopolymer, collagrahs, etc.
  • Stencilling & screen printing – DIY kitchen table techniques, screenprinting with hand cut stencils, screenprinting with drawing/masking fluid, screen monoprinting, beginners repeat pattern textile printing, etc.
  • Other print processes - waterless lithography, gelli printing, printing without a press, etc. 

And coming soon to Stone & Quoin Studio in Hindmarsh:

  • Letterpressbook arts, zines and textile screenprinting.

Workshops & Intensives

Simone runs intensive printmaking workshops on demand. The workshops are ideal for beginners, more experienced printmakers and experimenting with different techniques. Everyone has different interests and levels of skills, so it is no matter whether you are a beginner or more experienced. Workshops are always tailored to the needs and experience of the participants. Certificates of Completion are available for teachers.

Techniques (click to download details):
Beginners stencilling/screenprinting and lino printing are both very popular. Other techniques include wood engraving, drypoint, etching, chine colle, mono printing, waterless lithography, screenprinting with drawing/masking fluids, screen monoprinting and printing-without-a-press. Letterpress, book arts, zines, Japanese woodblock and repeat pattern screenprinting will be available soon through the Hindmarsh studio.

  • The workshops run 10am-4pm.
  • Sundays or Tuesdays at Stone & Quoin Studio in Hindmarsh.
    Tuesdays at a private classroom in Stepney.
  • Now taking bookings for 2018.
  • Class sizes vary from 1-3 people (screenprinting) to 1-6 people (other techniques).
  • Costs vary according to technique, with most at~$160 per person, discounted if you are a return UStP student or if 4-6 people book in.
  • All materials, excellent notes, morning tea and a light cafe lunch are provided.
  • The workshops are intimate and designed to suit your needs.


Workshops are always booked in advance (weeks to months) and your place confirmed upon payment of your $50 deposit.

Simone also runs onsite workshops for schools and studios. She has a portable workshop press and can provide the equipment and materials for whichever workshop you require. To date, she has run onsite printmaking workshops for the Art Gallery of South Australia, Pembroke School, Bittondi Printmaking Association, the Friends of the Botanic Gardens Art GroupVicarious Press in Willunga, Quick Whippet Studio in Pt Elliot, Gallery 1855 at Tea Tree Gully and  Thumbprint Press in Mount Gambier.
